Sealant and Silver

Do you ever use a protective finish on silver. I have read arguments on line against sealing silver, but is it really as bad an idea for tarnish prevention. Should sealing silver be avoided completely?

Stacy's Answer: I never use lacquers or protective coatings on silver with the exception of perhaps Renaissance Wax from time-to-time when warranted. A quick wipe with a polishing cloth keeps the silver looking great! If you prefer bright silver, you may wish to start using Argentium silver as its alloy is very tarnish-resistant. While I have used protective coatings on copper, doing so on silver just seems wrong to me.
