Matte sealent for jewelry with a patina

I make jewelry and apply patina often, but when I apply a protectant seal it is shiny and ruins the old look. Is there a top coat, a protective sealent that is a dull matte?

Stacy's Answer:

Hi Yvonne!

When purchasing a protective lacquer sealant, you must select one that says, "Matte Finish". Lacquers like paint, are available in different finishes, ie: high-gloss, satin (usually shiny) and matte. The Permalac matte lacquer I prefer must be stirred thoroughly. The matte agent for lack of a better word, settles at the bottom. If it's not mixed in, the lacquer is shiny.

I'm recently using liver of sulfa on sterling silver for a patina with some interesting results I might add. Am I correct that a sealent is not necessary for sterling?
