Is LOS a permanent treatment?

How permanent is the LOS patina when applied to hot silver within hot water?

Stacy's Answer:

Not permanent at all. It is a patina surface treatment and therefore subjected to the changes additional surface exposure may cause; like sweat, rubbing, etc. Just rub it with your thumb and it starts to come off, exposing the bright silver under it.

LOS oxidizes the silver and silver will continue to oxidize on its own with or without it. Pretty greens, purples, pinks, etc. will continue to oxidize further into plain dark brown or black unless you add a protective coating to seal it.
