cutting before burnishing?

Hi,

I have just bought a barrel polisher & steel shot. I am polishing solid 9ct gold pieces which I have cleaned up and sanded with a fine paper. I would like a high shine finish. Do you recommend doing a cutting cycle first and then a burnishing or should I just do burnishing with the steel?

Thanks for any advice!
Lindsay

Hi Lindsay!

First, make sure that you are using Stainless steel shot and not steel shot as if you are using a wet solution, the steel will rust. A cutting cycle first will help to even out and refine the surface of the metal which should give you a much more even, high polish finish when following up with a burnishing spin.
