Brass & Copper Tumble

Can you tumble brass (jewelers brass - nugold) & copper together? If so, is it worth adding the burnishing to it.

Thank you Stacy

Stacy's Answer:

Thanks for your question Deb Mae! Yes, you can tumble different metals together. I do so all the time. I'm not quite sure what you mean by, "...add the burnishing to it." Tumbling your items in the regular way — water, Dawn dish soap, stainless steel shot — should result in polished, shiny pieces when you remove them. You can use a burnishing solution instead of the liquid dishsoap, but only if you are tumbling items that you have not added a patina to.

I was using Stainless steel shot, a drop of dawn and liquid burnishing compound. So your saying just the dawn or just the burnishing not both, and no they don't have patina on them.

That's correct, Deb Mae. One or the other, but not both. And you'll want to be sure to cleanse your shot and barrel of the burnishing compound; otherwise, it may leave your patina'd items spotty.
