Do you tumble/polish gemstones before or after cutting gemstones into desired shapes?

Hi Dawn!

While I have done some cabbing in the past, I am a metal artist and enjoy purchasing and using beautifully fashioned gemstones and do not create them myself. The cutting/faceting/polishing of gems is outside the scope of what I do. However, polishing is usually the last step in the production of most things.
