Wire Jewelry Techniques —
In this
fun 6 week class you will learn the basic wire jewelry techniques
needed to design and
create your own beautiful wire jewelry! You'll become familiar with
the "tools of the trade" and their proper uses.
We'll
discuss
different technical components and design elements, including the use
of
color. Various finishing techniques will also be covered.
Here are some of the
skills and techniques you'll learn:
- How
to create a basic bangle bracelet
- How
to select and add beads and other adornments to create a balanced and
aesthetically pleasing design
- Links,
links and more links!
- Eye
pins, head pins and other connectors
- Twisting
and coiling wire
- Standard
wire jewelry making tools — What? When? How?
- Making
your own jumprings
- How
to implement variations from the basic design and
embellish it so that you begin to develop your own unique style
- Finishing techniques,
including "aging" your jewelry with a patina
Recommended
tools to bring to
the workshop:
- Flush or semi-flush cutters that
will cut up to 12 gauge wire
- Ball
peen or chasing hammer
- Mandrels
of different sizes (knitting needles and round writing pens work well
for this)
- Sharpie®
or other indelible pen
Some
tools will be available to borrow. However,
I highly recommend using your own tools. I have quality
tools available for purchase.
A $15 MATERIALS FEE
includes all necessary gauges of copper wire and some beads.
A
variety of materials and tools will be available for purchase or bring
your own! Sterling
silver wire will be available at a reasonable market price. Of course,
you may bring your own supplies.
You'll
create several pieces of jewelry in the class including a basic wire
bangle bracelet and earrings.
With
the wire
jewelry techniques that you'll learn here,
you'll be well on your way to making wire
jewelry like a pro!
