— Basic Wire Jewelry Techniques II —

basic wire jewelry techniquesDo you want to create beautiful and unique jewelry using wire and beads? If so, then this is the place to be! In Basic Wire I you learned the fundamentals...now it's time to build on those basic skills. In this 6-week class you will learn many of the finer details that will make your jewelry stand out from the ordinary. Learn more advanced links, clasps, wire wrapping techniques and finishes, and take your wire jewelry art to the next level!


Here are some of the more advanced skills and techniques you'll learn:

  • Punching and dapping — cutting, shaping and forming metal to create charms, discs, bead caps, etc.
  • Links, links and more links!
  • Letter and design stamping
  • Twisting and coiling wire
  • More specialized wire jewelry making tools — What? When? How? (You can never have too many tools :) )
  • Hammering and texturizing
  • Further developing your own unique style, giving your jewelry added panache and flair!
  • Advanced finishing techniques, including "aging" and coloring your jewelry with a patina and applying protective coatings

Recommended tools to bring to the workshop:

  • Round nose pliers
  • Flat nose pliers
  • Chain nose pliers
  • Flush or semi-flush cutters that will cut up to 12 gauge wire
  • Ball peen or chasing hammer
  • Mandrels of different sizes (knitting needles and round writing pens work well for this)
  • Needle files
  • 12 inch zero centering ruler (available at Jo-Ann stores)
  • Soft tape measure
  • Steel bench block
  • Sharpie® or other indelible pen
  • Hand towel
  • Polishing cloth
  • #0000 Fine steel wool
Some tools will be available to borrow. However, I highly recommend using your own tools. I have quality tools available for purchase.

A MATERIALS FEE will include all necessary gauges of copper wire and some beads.

A variety of materials and tools will be available for purchase or bring your own!
Sterling silver wire will be available at a reasonable market price. Of course, you may bring your own supplies.

Take your wire art skills to the next level. Come prepared to create lots of beautiful jewelry in this fun and exciting hands-on course!

Prerequisites: Completion of Basic Wire Jewelry Techniques I or intermediate wire skills
