       Petrified Wood Necklace

Carved from genuine petrified wood, the stones in this lovely necklace have a slight shimmery effect following the ancient wood grain. Though not commonly seen in jewelry, these gem stones are gorgeous!

I wonder what prehistoric creatures grazed in the branches of those trees or snoozed in the shade they provided? Some 200 million years ago the wood was 'exchanged' for rock as part of a slow crystallization process. Only trees that were quickly covered with a layer of fine-grained sedimentary rock soon after dying could undergo the process of petrification.

In neutral grey tones with hints of rusts and yellows, the faceted flat briolettes average 3/4 inch x 1/2 inch in size. Sterling silver Bali spacers accent the stones.

For sure, this petrified wood necklace will be an interesting and lovely conversation piece. A choker style, it measures 18 inches in length and closes with a toggle style clasp of Sterling silver.
